Recapping Comic-Con

Here's a wrap-up of my 2010 appearance at Comic-Con. Thanks to everyone who came out to make it such an awesome week!

Here's a commissioned sketch that I did for a fan. It's kind of a Charlie's Angels take on the awesome threesome taking center stage in the current Evil Inc storyline.

Micky Linn from Examiner.com covered the Webcomics Lightning Round by Scott Kurtz, Robert Khoo and me:

Scott Kurtz, Robert Khoo, and Brad Guigar hosted a hilarious panel for the Webcomics Lightning Round... While the three panelists approach comic creation in a slightly different way, they all advocate the power of the internet to draw in fans. However, web cartoonists must stick with it long enough to get traction.

Arch-henchman David Oakes saw a particularly pliable cosplayer in the DC area and pointed her in my direction for a photo op. Needless to say, I think she had the best costume of the week.

Question: There’s a certain amount of tension between print comics and webcomics, is anybody trying to do both?
Guigar: It’s really a conflict between corporate comics and vs independent, so by definition nobody is doing both.
Kurtz: The conflict is between between embittered print comics artists and and webcomics artists with a chip on their shoulder, so basically it’s Ted Rall and me. Everybody else is fine.
Khoo: I don’t care about this at all.

The three of us hosted an impromptu session around midnight in the Marriott hotel later that night in which we discussed more webcomics issues and talked about some of the behind-the-scenes stories about Webcomics.com. To my knowledge, there's not a record of that meet-up.

As you've already seen, arch-henchman Mike Ciccotello kept busy getting photos of some of the best cosplayers of the convention, and he's going to share them in this space over the next few weeks.

The show was amazing in a lot of different ways. It's always a blast to be able to exhibit with Dave Kellett and Kris Straub. Plus I got to hang out with my good friend Scott Kurtz and get to know his brother and father better. I've hung out with Brian Kurtz before, but this was my first opportunity to meet Frank, and I have to tell you, the guy is a delight.
