Due to time constraints, it's just the written version this week.
Birds of Prey #2 Creative team: Story by Gail Simone; Art by Ed Benes Villain to Watch: Penguin They say: Flying out of Brightest Day, the Birds of Prey are forced to ally themselves with the worst of Gotham City's mega-criminals while they struggle to save his life from the unspeakable horror that hunts them all! Fan-favorite writer Gail Simone and superstar artist Ed Benes continue their return to the title that first brought them together! I say: I really liked the kick-off of this series last month. I'm sticking with it for another couple issues to see what develops. Knowing Simone's writing, I'm pretty confident that I'm making the right move. Throwing the Penguin in with these Birds is icing on the cake. Lockjaw and the Pet Avengers Unleashed #4 Read the preview. Creative team: Story by Chris Eliopoulos; Art by Ig Guara Villain to Watch: An Incredibly evil beast TOO BIG for the cover They say: Who is the Golden One? The answer may mean the destruction of the Pet Avengers. Will the team make the ultimate sacrifice to save their friends' world? Find out in the action-stuffed finale by Eisner-nominated Chris Eliopoulos and fan favorite artist Ig Guara! I say: Remember when comics were fun? Chris does, too. Deadpool Merc with a Mouth #12 Read the preview. Creative team: Story by Victor Gischler; Art by Bong Dazo Villain to Watch: Zombie Absorbing Man They say: In a world gone boom, you can't just catch the next JetBlue flight to the cosmic dimensional gateway thingy down in Citrusville. Good thing Deadpool is calling in his old pal Professor Veronica for some help in arranging some transportation. Little does Deapool know that Veronica has been turned zombie thanks to some chomp-chomp action by Crusher Creel, The Absorbing Man. The reunion ends with a bang...and not a good kind. I say: My only complaint is having the lovely Veronia zombified. I would have loved seeing the Betty / Veronica / Deadpool love triangle developed. Luckily, Betty is still developed. ...And One To Pass Female Force Charlaine Harris #15 Creative team: Story by Kim Sherman; Art by Nathaniel Ooten Villain to Watch: Bluewater Comics They say: The inspiration for the hit television series True Blood and with a writing career spanning nearly 30 years, the popularity of cozy mystery 'with teeth' author Charlaine Harris soared when her popular Sookie Stackhouse novels spawned a new life on HBO. This Female Force book showcases the personal obstacles over which Harris has triumphed, making her an ideal role model for teenage girls and women. Harris was interviewed for this special edition of Female Force. I say: The cover says it all -- from the portrait that screams "traced photography" to the generic vampire doodle on the side. And the incoherent solicit seems to have been written by someone whose ADD kicks in about every five words. When a major selling point of a bio is that they actually took the time to talk to the subject, you know it's time to head for the hills. Would you like to share this post?
