I say: Listen, I've pretty much been giving the Bat-books a pass. I 'm not going to be comfortable with them bringing back Bruce Wayne until I figure out how he died. As best I can tell it had something to do with the Black Glove, Darkseid, the Omega Sanction and Nekron. But I'll be darned if I can connect the dots. Nonetheless, it's issue number 700, and that's a pretty significant achievement in comics. Unless you're Deadpool. You're going to want to pick this one up just to have it in your hands.

Villain to Watch: Those mooks what stole Catman's baby boy.
They say: It's the bloody (and we mean bloody) conclusion to the 'Cat in the Cradle' arc! Catman rages against those that have been trying to destroy his life. Will tensions within the Six force them to leave Catman to fend for himself? And is someone leaving the team? Let's hope not!
I say: Gail Simone delivers her standard, taut narrative in this arc -- punctuated by liberal splashes of comic moments -- that keeps me spinning from one moment to the next. In this issue, we're promised a deeper revelation to Catman's character, and (with any luck) a daring rescue of Catman's infant son. Also, several candidates for membership into the Six were teased last issue, and if one of them is going to be initiated, my money's on Giganta.

Villain to Watch: Lex Luthor
They say: The Titans ongoing series returns with a new direction that ties into Brightest Day! We saw what Deathstroke and his team of mercenaries did in the Titans: Villains for Hire Special #1, and it was a dark day for the Justice League of America. Hopefully their next target fares better. Good luck, Lex Luthor!
I say: I have no idea why I'm putting this on my Pull List. I really didn't care for the Titans: Villains for Hire Special. And many of the characters on the roster of Deathstroke's "Terror Titans" leave me uninspired. However, the idea of them attempting to take out an A-lister like Lex (rather than a D-Lister like the fill-in Atom, Ryan Choi) is making my Spider-sense tingle. Maybe it's because I can't think of a better roster of black-capes to get their butts handed to them by one of their own.

I say: That's it. I'm done. There are officially more weekly Deadpool titles than there are weeks in the month -- meaning Marvel is starting to offer more than one Deadpool title a week. And that's simply waaaay too much of a good thing. There's Deadpool, Deadpool Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool Team-up, Deadpool Corps, Deadpool: Wade Wilson's War and now Marvel's Greatest Comics: Deadpool?! And, am I reading the solicit right? It's a Secret Invasion tie-in? What, was Secret Wars booked? Please. Marvel. You have other characters. Use them.

My understanding is that RIP had nothing to do with Bruce's death. It was never intended to. In fact, it wasn't even going to end with Bruce's apparent death except they realized that would look weird and confusing. So they blew up the helicopter and left it at that. (Wiki's page on RIP [wikipedia.org] now says that Batman #683 shows that Bruce survived the explosion, came back to investigate, but decided that Darkseid was a more pressing issue than Black Glove.)
Bruce's actual death occurred in Final Crisis, where Darkseid hit him with the Omega Sanction, a beam which, according to Wiki [wikipedia.org] (FWIW), "traps the organism in a series of alternate realities, each worse than the previous one." Or something. Point is that Darkseid's Omega beams don't actually kill, they just send you somewhere else. So Bruce is moving through time and/or alternate realities.
Whatever. I dropped the bat-titles with RIP. Gave up on DC entirely with Yet Another Crisis (Last One, We Promise! ... Until We Change Our Minds). But I hear things are moving in a better direction from here, so I'm willing to give it another go. For a while, at least.

Greatest Comics: Deadpool #1 is just a reprint of the first issue of the current run. It's not another series, thankfully. Marvel's been doing "Greatest Comics" reprints of various titles for the last few weeks.

I ain't touching no more Bat-titles until Grant Morrison is well away from them. And the next guy who says "Zur-En-Arrh" to me will find my Black Glove constricting tightly on his windpipe.
