Creative team: Story by Brian Michael Bendis; Art by Alan Davis Villains to Watch: TBA They say: They were friends, brothers and teammates through all of Marvel's greatest adventures, but recent events turned them into the bitterest of enemies. In the wake of the Siege of Asgard Thor, Iron Man and Steve Rogers are brought together on the same side once more, but these great heroes can't truly trust each other yet. They better start soon because something only the Big Three can handle is tearing their world apart. This all-new, grand and dangerous adventure will catapult our heroes into the explosive Heroic Age and will unite comics legend Alan Davis with Avengers scribe Brian Bendis for the very first time. I say: Avengers Prime stakes out its narrative territory within the first three pages, with the Avenger's touchstone trio -- Captain America, Iron Man and Thor -- standing amidst the ruins of Asgard. Iron Man consoles the grief-stricken thunder god that anything can be rebuilt -- and uses his armor as an example. Steve Rogers pointedly states that he hasn't decided whether he is going to allow Tony Stark to rebuild his Iron Man armor. This touches off a tinderbox of emotion between the two that clearly reaches back to the unresolved issues of Marvel's Civil War. After a barrage of verbal blows, Thor simply states: "If you two are here on my behalf, please feel free to take your leave." And that, my friends is the emotional triangle that "Avengers Prime" promises to develop. Bendis has the ability to make it matter, and penciller Alan David has the chops to make it real.  Brightest Day #3 Read the preview Creative team: Story by Geoff Johns; Art by Peter Tomasi Villains to Watch: Black Lantern Firestorm They say: If this is the BRIGHTEST DAY then what is Black Lantern Firestorm doing on our cover?! I say: Not much in the way of a preview or a solicit to follow this week, but the title has been pretty compelling in its first two issues, so I'm giving it a recommendation for this week -- if only for the fact that the cover belies a hint that my prediction of the return of the Black Lanterns a few weeks back might just be right on the money.  Heralds #1 Read the preview. Creative team: Story by Kathryn Immonen; Art by Tonci Zonjic Villains to Watch: "Powerful forces" They say: The WOMEN OF MARVEL event continues with the blockbuster of the summer, a fast-paced five-issue weekly series by Kathryn Immonen and Tonci Zonjic! Powerful forces are converging on Earth and the women of the Marvel Universe are at the center of it! Years ago, a herald of Galactus sacrificed her life for the universe. Little did anyone realize, a shred of that spirit lived on...and now she's back for vengeance on those who abandoned her. The most powerful super heroines of the Marvel Universe must put aside their differences to stop this threat before the Earth is destroyed. Emma Frost, She-Hulk, Agent Abigail Brand, Hellcat, Valkyrie, Monica Rambeau, Sue Storm...these mighty women will be put to the test as never before, as cities are destroyed, families are torn apart, and a cosmic resurrection changes the heroes' lives forever! I say: Remember when I told you about the e-mail from a father who was looking for a female-centric super-hero comic that was appropriate for his eight-year-old daughter? Well, I think I found it in "Her-oes." That's definitely one to look for. This new "Women of Marvel" title shows promise as well. I'm giving this a look in its first couple issues to see if I want to follow it longterm. The artist, Tonci Zonjic, was someone who took a little good-natured kidding from me for his lack of noses in "Marvel Divas." The art in the preview looked a little less "fashion-sketchy" and a little more comic-booky. And that suits me just fine. And One to Pass Franken-Castle #17 Creative team: Story by Rick Remender; Art by Rolanel Boschi Villains to Watch: Daken and Jigsaw They say: In the past few months, Frank Castle has had his family desecrated by the Hood, been killed by Daken, been slashed to ribbons by The Hand, been hunted by Microchip's Deadly Dozen, and had a bounty placed on his head by Jigsaw. But now, The Punisher has made a list of his own. God help you if your name is on it. It's time for the rise of Frank Castle. It's time for PAYBACK. I say: I have to admit that the Punisher was never a favorite of mine. And the idea of doing a mash-up of his character and the Frankenstein monster really leaves me cold.
