I have no idea what in the world Wizard is thinking: How can this possibly be good? Not only does it put the con patrons on the spot, it also puts guests and attendees in the same position. This is stupid all around.

Wizard is trying to position themselves as the big name in comic conventions. They tried this in Philly when they went up against Hero Con. The result was a Philadelphia convention center that was almost empty with no major comic book companies in attendance. and half of the attendees canceling, Wizard is shooting itself in the foot.

Making people choose like that is not a good idea for an event. While it could work for a retail store (walmart puts many people out of business) An event like this where thousands of people make plans well in advance, it's going to hurt both 'cons. Either one will have the support of the majority of the comic companies, or they'll split down the middle and the conflicting schedules would just be hell. Moving the comic con a month later, three weeks minimum, gives people enough time to gather up some more funds, and have another blast. While it seems that Wizard is trying to become a big name, direct competition is not the answer. IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO COMPETE WITH ANOTHER CON YOU WILL GET EVERYONE, not half.

how can anyone think this is a bad idea?
Wizard is trying to throw what little weight it has left around and trying to make fans, retailers, creators and companies choose a side.
With any luck, Wizard will receive a good swift kick in the junk and realize its time as the big dog in running conventions has come and gone!
Now if only Reed would come to Texas...

Galactus on a crutch, here we go again! How many of these things have to fizzle before Wizard realizes that it's not the 800-pound gorilla on the con circuit that it thinks it is?

I'd vote, but Brad didn't have the "Don't care" button.

The last time I went to the New York Comic Con it was a full weekend affair. Once I went in, I didn't leave because there was so many things I wanted to do and people I wanted to see. What I didn't do for almost the entire Con was go outside of the convention center for any reason other than to take the train home. I can see absolutely no benefit for both Cons to be going on at the same time. People are going to pick one or the other, but not both. For the most part, those people are going to pick the bigger and the better of the two and it's pretty obvious who that is. What an idiot.

All Wizard dose by scheduling their con the same weekend is divide the audience, guests and resources for the shows and in the end it isn’t Reed but fans that will suffer. I hope next year NYCC puts Big Apple out of is misery by crushing them completely.

Sad that Wizard it knowingly trying to undercut the NYCC. The city had been without a major convention until NYCC really began to attract attention. A city the size of NY can certainly have two major conventions each year. There is no reason except for spite that Shamus chose this date.
Of course, this is the type of shardy behavior you would expect from Wizard. One of the reasons I have not returned to the Chicago Con since Wizard took it over.
