A funny thing happens when you exhibit at several comic conventions year after year. You come across people at various stages of their development as artists and writers -- and you gain appreciation for each of these people and how they're working within their phases. When I met Brookes Eggleston, he was very new to cartooning. But despite his youth, the raw energy he brought to his work put him in a category for me that said that he was One To Watch.
He's been at it for a couple years now, and he's gained a significant amount of polish to his comic, Also, Bagels. When I ran into him at New York Comic Con, he was kind enough to hand me a copy of his latest book.
It was a real treat to see his progress. His latest book is charming, witty and enjoyable. It's a very good all-ages read, and if you haven't checked it out, I can heartily encourage you to do so.
And keep an eye on him. He's still One To Watch.
