Five to Pull / One to Pass: March 17, 2010

Amazing Spider-Man #625
Creative team: Story by Jow Kelly; Art by Max Fiumara

Villain to Watch: Rhino (Aleski Systevich)

They say: Deep within the fires of the gauntlet It's Rhino vs. Rhino - with Spidey caught in the middle! When the young, teched-out upstart who's taken the Rhino mantle refuses to leave the original Rhino, Aleski Systevich in peace, he forces Systevic to make a stand...and the tragic results will be felt in Spidey's life for months to come. Witness THE LAST STAND OF THE RHINO!

I say: It's good to see a return to this thread after a little time spent with bridge material in this series. Writer Joe Kelly has done an excellent job of showing us an aging Rhino trying to change his ways for the woman he loves -- while positioning a new, bloodthirsty Rhino who needs to kill the old man to cement his position.

Dark Avengers #15
Creative team: Story by Brian Michael Bendis; Art by Mike Deodato Jr.

Villain to Watch: Ms Marvel (Moonstone)

They say: In the middle of SIEGE, Ms. Marvel and Hawkeye take center stage in a sick twisted battle, and launch their own agenda, revealing their true relationship, and their personal plans for Norman Osborn.

I say: If you're not hooked by that solicit, then check your pulse. Moonstone and Bullseye have been sneaking away for trysts throughout Dark Reign. If "revealing their true relationship" is any indication, we're in for a shocker.

Deadpool Merc with a Mouth #9
Creative team: Story by Victor Gischler; Art by Bong Dazo

Villain to Watch: Deadpool

They say: Bloodthirsty zombies and interdimensional travel have got Deadpool feeling a little, well, frisky. But there's only one way that Wade can earn the affection of the luscious duo of Dr. Betty and Professor Veronica: by capturing one of those pesky zombified super heroes for a little experiment. And just where does a can of 'stink spray' fit into his plan? Answers inside.

I say: I'm already through with "Prelude to Deadpool Corps," and I'm starting to sour on the central Deadpool title, but this one is going to be a keeper for the foreseeable future.

Doomwar #2
Creative team: Story by Jonathan Maberry; Art by Scot Eaton

Villain to Watch: Dr. Doom

They say: Doctor Doom's latest power play has the Marvel Universe up in arms. Wakanda has been conquered and Storm faces execution in the next 48 hours -- unless the X-Men, the Fantastic Four and the two Black Panthers can rally to the rescue! With Doom only minutes away from stealing enough Vibranium to help him conquer the world, T'Challa faces the most dreadful decision possible: let Doom win...or let Storm die!

I say: I have to admit, this series is off to a bit of a slow start. I'm going to pull it once again and see where it's going. But it had better start moving soon or I'm bailing out.

Green Lantern Corps #46
Creative team: Story by Patrick Gleason; Art by Rebecca Buchman

Villain to Watch: Nekron

They say: Blackest Night comes to its epic and stunning conclusion in this over-sized issue as the Green Lantern Corps descends on Earth to make their final stand against Nekron and the Black Lanterns!

I say: The Blackest Night series has turned out way better than I had anticipated. I'm primed for what promises to be a satisfying conclusion.

Honorable mentions:
Hercules Fall of an Avenger #1 , Hulk #21, Incredible Hulk #608, Prelude to Deadpool Corps #3, Seige #3, Spider-man and the Secret Wars #4.

...And One To Pass...

Twilight
Creative team: Story by Stephenie Meyer; Art by Young Kim

They say: The love story between the innocent teenager Bella and the handsome vampire Edward, which prompted a worldwide phenomenon, breathes new life in a two-volume adaptation of Twilight! The first volume has been rigorously reviewed by Stephenie Meyer and reflects her personal vision of the world of The Twilight Saga. This unique art style - a black-and-white graphic novel with color interspersed throughout - is guaranteed to take a bite out of the graphic novel world and leave fans eagerly anticipating the exciting conclusion in Twilight: The Graphic Novel, Volume 2!

I say: ...now printed with SparklePage© inks!
