Let's face it, this was a VQ Rating we've been expecting for months. With the Central Power Battery in peril, it was just a matter of time before the insidious Parallax made its reappearance.Parallax is the demonic alien parasite responsible for the Green Lantern power ring's susceptibility to the color yellow. If a corpsman is trained to overcome fear, of course, he or she can overcome this flaw. Parallax is also responsible for merging with Hal Jordan in 1994's Emerald Twilight storyline -- causing him to destroy the entire Green Lantern Corps. Parallax is the sentient embodiment of fear (yellow, in the emotional spectrum), and had been imprisoned by the Guardians in the Central Power Battery somewhere around the beginning of time. It freed itself, bonding to Hal Jordan as a host, and was subsequently defeated and trapped, once more, divided among the power batteries of Hal, Guy Gardner, Kyle Rayner and John Stewart. And now, with the Spectre's emergence as a Black Lantern, Parallax is the only thing strong enough to defeat the cloaked "embodiment of God's wrath." Hal Jordan: You can free him [Parallax], Sinestro.Hal wins the brief tussle, and, after laying the lip-lock on Star-Sapphire-ized Carol Ferris, merges with Parallax. Since Parallax was the only thing on record to make the Spectre turn tail and run, the next issue should be a barn-burner. Parallax makes his re-emergance into the DCU at an impressive VQ Rating of 9. It's be a solid ten, but let's face it, Hal has been down this road before.
